Digitally documenting moments in our class
Student M is giving our Principal a Paper Person of himself. The students created paper versions of themselves. The paper people is an interactive display. The students change the cards in the paper person's pocket to share with the school what book they are currently reading and the book that they plan to read next. These should be on display at the beginning of March for reading month and conferences. The great thing about this is that it can stay up for as long as you like because the book choices in the paper person's pocket changes to reflect the reading habits of each student .
We are never to old to enjoy having a book read to us!
Congrats to Student B. He guessed the mystery book today and won the opportunity to choose a free book!!!!

Writing: Students are learning how to write POETRY
Simile and Hyperboles are found in songs!
This is an example of how the students are noticing that even musicians use the author's craft of simile and hyperbole when writing. Students learned that Katy Perry's song "Roar" has several examples of simile in the song and she also uses hyperbole to make the song more interesting! Click on the sound icon to hear us!!

Students need to review math concepts throughout the year.
Students receive math homework every day except on Fridays!!!
Please remember there are tutorial videos on the think central website <------------Click on the word Think Central. Your child knows how to log into the site. The videos are helpful if your child needs help completing their homework. There are also great games that allows students to review math concepts that we have covered. This is great because it helps the students move towards mastering the concepts!!!!

In social studies, we use a curriculum developed by Oakland Intermediate School District. The website is www.micitizeshipcurriculum.org. If your your child is absent from school you may go to this website to see what your child missed. We do use a lot of maps and have lots of discussions in class so often it is very difficult to make up what has been missed in class. The Social Studies textbook that we have will be used more as a reference resource to reinforce concepts that are taught using the Oakland developed Social Studies curriculm.
Want to help your child move to the "head of the class"?
If your child has access to the Internet from home have him/her do MobyMax each night for that extra edge in mastering math. The login and password is the same one that students use for their AR account. Here is the link:
2013-2014: Is your child reading books at home? I hope so because students are required to read 120 minutes per week. We have recently started a really great reward system. If your child reads a book they may take the Accelerated Reader Quiz at school. Every Friday, Mr. Kitchen visits each classroom to hand out prizes to students who have successfully passed quizzes to earn certain points for various prizes at specific point levels. Adlana has earned the most points out of all of the students in our school!!!!
Our wish list: itunes gift cards to purchase apps, headphones to listen to books on the ipads, Legos so we can build and not always use our ipads during recess, more chapter books used or new because we know the more we read the smarter we will become, dry eraser markers, and power strips to charge our ipads. Our super most ultimate items that we wish for are about four or five Chrome books. Google has a lot of useful resources to help us learn and explore globally. Everyday is learning day!
